The AP weighs in

[Seattle dad chronicles attempt to raise a foodie](http://www.seattlepi.com/local/6420ap_us_fea_food_hungry_monkey.html) > For a 5-year-old, Iris Amster-Burton spends a lot of time thinking about food. She likes to flip through cooking magazines and recipe books, looking at glossy pictures of cupcakes or strange Japanese dishes, such as broiled salamander on a stick. This article is on the Associated Press wire and therefore appearing *everywhere.* It led to the following exchange with my friend [Dan](http://dfan.org/blog/): **Me:** "I am not sure how I gave him the idea that my stove is partly broken." **Dan:** "Maybe he just assumed that from your food."

Buy it now

Hungry Monkey is out RIGHT NOW. I am so glad to be able to say this, since it feels like it's been Coming Soon for about forty-seven years. Buy it now... ...from Powell's ...from Amazon ...from your local bookstore ...from Barnes & Noble. Or ask at your local bookstore; if they don't have it in stock, they should be able to get it from their supplier within a couple of days. Thanks for reading!

Ich bin ein monkey

I'm delighted to report that Hungry Monkey will be published in German by [VGS](http://www.vgs.de/) in October. I don't know yet what the German title will be, but I'll let you know as soon as I know.

Radio free monkey

[Nancy Leson](http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/allyoucaneat/) was kind enough to mention _Hungry Monkey_ on her [public radio segment](http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kplu/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=1482099) this week. Listen away--the whole thing is only 3.5 minutes long. I have to say, I'm blown away by the response to the book so far. One part of my brain is saying, "Yes! You killed!" The other part is saying, "Don't worry, once the book is actually for sale, you'll get the real story."

Date with a monkey

The first tour dates are posted. Look for me in Seattle, Portland, and the Bay Area in two months. New York date coming soon, I think, and Chicago and Boston are also possibilities.

The P-I loves Hungry Monkey

Rebekah Denn promised to write something about _Hungry Monkey_ before the Seattle P-I shut down, and she did, just under the wire: The food book I wish I'd had as a new parent > I do believe it's the only smart, funny, and useful book on children and food that I've ever read -- and I've read a bunch. Look for Rebekah at her new blog, Eat All About It. Best of luck to her.

Why I am jealous of Junie B. Jones

Iris has been reading Junie B. Jones. (In case you are wondering, no, I am not concerned that this will make her bratty or ruin her grammar.) I am jealous of JBJ author Barbara Park, because her author bio begins: > Barbara Park is one of today's funniest authors. Do you think it's too late to change my bio?

A game of telephone

Cocktail expert AJ Rathbun, writing for Amazon's Al Dente blog, links to my Serious Eats post about fortune cookies. He also recommends _Hungry Monkey_. Thanks, AJ!

Praise

Is it obnoxious to post reviews here even though you can't buy the book yet? Let me know and I can hold them. Anyway, Lynne Sampson of the blog [Rural Eating](http://ruraleating.blogspot.com/) says: > Just finished it last night, straining to keep my eyes open. I did not want to put it down. When I read it during the daytime, Molly kept wanting to know what I was chuckling about. I restrained myself from interrupting my reading to try a recipe. What an intriguing mix of ideas and the sprinkling in of research and common sense. Well done!
